Treasures, Trinkets and Trash
Start the treasure hunt on the most famous section of Royal street which is the portion in the upper French Quarter, known for its scores of opulent antique shops and art galleries. Despite its orderly nature, it is located only one block south of the party atmosphere of Bourbon Street. When stepping into the antique stores history will come alive with the opulent treasures of the past! The finer antique shops display not simply items that are old, but such rare items as pieces of fine art furniture owned by royalty of past centuries.Next discover trash and hidden trinkets in the famous New Orleans’ French Market which stretches just inland from the Mississippi River in the section of the French Quarter downriver from Jackson Square. While part of this space has been dedicated as a market since 1791 (earlier city markets were at different locations), the oldest structures in the market date to about 1813.
The exploring will continue Uptown onto the famous Magazine St. where trinkets galore will be found! Explore the world-renowned art galleries, antique shops and specialty boutiques in search of that special gift or memento that recalls the time spent in this magnificent city.
